In July 2017 the museum became a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). This is a new form of legal entity designed for non-profit organisations in the UK. The main benefit of this change is that the museum has a legal personality and the ability to conduct business in its own name. It also gives limited liability. The change means that we no longer have a membership with voting rights – instead we have Associates. As an Associate, you are contributing to the financial upkeep of the museum buildings, archive and collection as well as to the preservation of local history which might otherwise be lost.
Benefits of being an Associate are:
- Free admission to the museum (when open) and the use of the research facilities.
- Reduced entry (up to 50%) to talk and events related to Dartmoor’s heritage and history.
- Invitations to attend AGMs and receive relevant notices and reports.
- Invitations to private viewings of exhibitions and appropriate social events.
Individual adult: £15
Becoming an Associate is open to everyone. Pick up a leaflet in the museum or download an application form here.
