The Museum of Dartmoor Life is located in the heart of Okehampton within a 19th-century mill and warehouse. Set in its own historic courtyard, it is an ideal location to learn about local history, the history and geology of Dartmoor and its people from the Bronze Age through to the 20th century. Learning opportunities including self-led activities, object handling, resource boxes (particularly in relation to WWII and the Victorians) and the opportunity to meet the experts.
Curriculum subjects include prehistory, significant people in local history, the Victorians, natural landscapes, local architecture, rocks and soils and changes in recent history. There is also a range of other activities throughout the museum including a Dartmoor letterboxing trail, ‘Find the Dartmoor Crosses’, design your own mosaic and construct a Bronze Age hut. Seasonal activities are also available, so please ask one of our volunteers for further information.
