School Visits & Home Educators

We love to welcome schools to the Museum. Why not plan a self-led visit to explore our permanent collection or special exhibitions. We recommend teachers visit the museum before their school trip, when the manager will be happy to talk through ways in which we can enhance the students fun and learning and answer any access questions.  Please also, read our Accessibility Guide.

For school visits we charge just £2 per child and teachers and assistants are free of charge. For Home Educators a Family ticket for one adult and two children costs £9 and you will then receive a ticket giving you free access for one year for as many visits as you wish.

Your visit could also include a trip to Simmons Park and/or Okehampton Castle. Please contact the manager with any enquires manager@dartmoorlife.org.uk

Early Years and Key Stage 1

Museums are places of discovery and excitement. Objects from all over Dartmoor offer opportunities to learn how people lived and worked over the last 5000 years, or you could investigate a theme of your choosing.

Ages 7-11 Key Stage 2

Students can engage and experience our collection to support school history projects. Bring your class and start conversations about life then and now, good and bad. Encourage communication and artistic skills. Why is history important and what can we learn from the past.

Ages 11-14 Key Stage 3

Our collection spans 5000 years of Dartmoor history and culture. In line with KS3, students can learn what it was and what it is to be human, investigate material culture and develop independent and transferrable enquiry-based skills.

Ages 14-16 Key Stage 4

Use our museum to engage with students about Dartmoor society and its concepts. Use objects as evidence and inspiration to underpin formal learning and support GCSE studies and personal development.
